The Social Network

The start of Facebook is an interesting story, as seen in the film The Social Network. It takes place in the earlier 2000’s, at Harvard University and in California. The film stars Jesse Eisenberg as Mark Zuckerberg, Andrew Garfield as Eduardo Saverin, Armie Hammer and Tyler and Cameron Winklevoss, and Justin Timberlake as Sean Parker.
The film is about Harvard students Mark Zuckerberg and Eduardo Saverin starting a new social network for their university; Eduardo brings in the money, and Mark does the creating. Mark has “stolen” the idea from twin Harvard students Tyler and Cameron Winklevoss, and didn’t mention it to Eduardo. As their network becomes established at their school, the twins sue Mark for stealing their idea. Later on, Mark and Eduardo continue expanding their website to other schools, even countries. They do this with the help of Sean Parker, which Eduardo doesn’t exactly agree with at first. As this continues, Mark, being led by Parker, swindles Eduardo out of the company, which then leads to another court case added to his list. So not only has Mark ruined his friendship, but he also has to go through two court cases, as well as continuing all the work for Facebook!
The acting in this film is amazing! Jesse Eisenberg, Andrew Garfield, and even Justin Timberlake play the characters super well, especially through all the tension that continues to grow throughout the film. The trio’s acting is what I call “Oscar worthy.” They’re portrayal was so on point, that nowhere was I uninterested in what each character was saying. They just jump off the screen. I even hated the Sean Parker character at one point, which means that Mr. Timberlake did a fantastic job! None of the acting was overdramatic, or odd-looking; everything that they acted was very, very believable. The Mark character is so interesting, and Jesse Eisenberg portrayed him so well, it was as if my mind couldn’t stop wanting to listen to every single word he was saying; he poured enough sarcasm and brilliance into the character who is “socially impaired.”
The editing in the film also played a big role for the success of the film. Every single cut was made at the right moment. The editor did an excellent job of deciding when to cut back and forth to the present and the now. When the characters would tell their side of the story, it was in perfect alignment with what was being shown on the screen. Even at the beginning when mark is explaining everything he’s doing, not one part of that was dull for the audience, if anything, it was intriguing. When it was tense, cuts came faster, which makes it more dramatic. The rhythm and pacing for the cuts fit exactly right with the tone of the film and the emotions the characters were going through.
This film is absolutely amazing, definitely worth my time and money. I loved all the tension, the actors, the acting, everything! The characters kept jumping off the screen, and I was drawn into the world of The Social Network. It is absolutely one of the best films I have seen this year. I was with the characters the whole time, everything they felt, I felt. Everything just fell into place and nothing was forced. I absolutely recommend for everyone to go and watch this film; all audiences should be ready to be blown away!

  1. Well you obviously are a big fan of this movie I thought it was good as well Jesse Eisenberg is a great actor. As for the review i'd say you had a bumpy start in the intro with some grammar errors and jumbling chronological order of events. However once you got into the real plot and characters everything sounded great and i agree with most of your opinions.
