Due Date

“Due Date,” directed by Todd Phillips, is a funny film with unpredictable characters. It has a great cast, which includes Robert Downey Jr., Zach Galifianakis, Michelle Monaghan, and Jamie Foxx.
Taking place in modern times, the beginning of the film has Peter (Downey) and Ethan (Galifianakis) arrive at the airport. The audience can see that Ethan clearly annoys Peter, and when they are seated near each other on the plane, everything comes spiraling down for Peter. He get’s kicked off the plane and can never fly with that airline ever again. Peter also forgot his wallet on the plane, so he’s stranded away from home. Ethan pulls up beside Peter in a car and offers to take him home. Peter reluctantly agrees, since he doesn’t seem to have other options and needs to return home quickly to his pregnant wife who’s due date is coming up soon. So they start their trip driving through all of I-10, where the most comedic and unexpected things happen to them, and drive Peter to the edge of his temper.
The characters were especially great in this film. Peter and Ethan are extremely different, and it’s always amusing to see them clash and interact with each other. For example, when Peter finally opens up a bit to Ethan about how his father was never there, Ethan just bursts into laughter. Zach Galifianakis did an incredible job playing Ethan. He always kept me at the edge of my seat; I couldn’t wait to see what other crazy thing he would do. I really enjoyed the part where he stole the trailer that Peter was handcuffed in. I thought he’d try to silently break him out of there, but he just went and stole the entire trailer! I also like how Galifianakis was into character so much, that he even had a certain walk for Ethan.
The only thing that was slightly bad about the film is some of their disasters were a bit unrealistic, like when Ethan fell asleep at the wheel and the car went and tumbled over the elevated highway over the edge. They both came out basically in good condition.
“Due Date” is an overall good film. It’s a very entertaining comedy. It’ll keep people wanting to see more of what the characters have to endure. I recommend it to anyone looking for a good laugh, as well as all the fans of Robert Downey Jr. and Zach Galifianakis.

  1. Right when you said "unpredictable characters", I have to disagree. For one, Robert Downey Jr. is made out to be a sarcastic, apathetic ***hole right from the get go and he never breaks that character. As for the unbearable Galifianakis, he's a moron and never shows an ounce of intellect throughout the entire picture. So, personally, these characters (and this movie) are VERY predictable.
