Red

The film Red, directed by Robert Schwentke, takes place in modern times, in various parts of the United States. It stars Bruce Willis, Mary-Louise Parker, Karl Urban, Helen Mirren, and John Malkovich. This film is an action-packed comedy, with a fantastic cast.
This film is about retired CIA agents, who are now being chased after and killed. The main character Frank Moses (Willis) survives his attack and goes to save Sarah (Parker), the love of his life, whom he’s never met. So it makes a very interesting first meet, since he abducts her so the people after him don’t kill her. She doesn’t believe him until she almost gets kidnapped by the other agents. The two hit the road and gather the rest of the living CIA agents, and start coming up with a plan of attack, as well as trying to figure out why they’re on the hit list. Along the way, Frank makes contact with his friend Joe (played by Morgan Freeman) and they find Marvin (Malkovich) to join their team. Their team continues getting attacked and they continue getting away, but not unscathed, which leads them to Victoria (Mirren). Victoria helps Frank recover and helps out the team. They also later discover that the reason they’re on a hit list is because of an operation that everyone worked on; basically everyone on that list is dead, except for them. Finding this out leads to meeting Alexander Dunning (played by Richard Dreyfuss), where they all find out that this conspiracy to kill them is tied to their vice president, Robert Stanton (played by Julian McMahon).
Some of the acting in this film is good. Bruce Willis plays his typical character, but I was very impressed with Helen Mirren. She did an excellent job of being able to show someone as a violent killer, but also show a soft, caring woman. She did a great job with the character Victoria. Another actor that did an amazing job was John Malcovich. His character Marvin is brilliantly insane! I always looked forward to all the crazy remarks his character would say. He was always showing up big surprises, especially for his first action sequence. He was the character I was always looking forward to seeing.
The editing in this film was also fantastic. I loved how the editor showed all the different perspectives in the action sequences. Also, I love how the editor also took advantage of the element of surprise. There were so many scenes where this came in handy. I really felt the mood and tone for the film with the fast cut editing.
Overall, the film was pretty good. I really liked the characters; they all stood out. It has a good cast, and enough action scenes. I recommend this film to all those action-loving people, as well as everyone who is looking for a good laugh.
